Musical influences
\n<\/strong>His musical influences are just as multifaceted. Marnix studied jazz guitar at the Amsterdam conservatory, explored both classical Indian music and 20th century western music, and developed the art of translating lyrics into music. The instruments he plays reflect this background; next to the electric guitar, he uses an Irish bouzouki,\u00a0and a custom built electric sitar.<\/p>\n

Compositions
\n<\/strong>He wrote numerous compositions in a wide range of musical styles. Renowned vibraphonist\u00a0Mike Mainieri<\/a>\u00a0loves playing his jazz work, vocalist Dianne Reeves<\/a>\u00a0sang his music, while the classic Dutch song ‘<\/em>Geen kind meer‘<\/em> won the\u00a0Annie M.G. Schmidt award\u00a0for best theatre composition.<\/p>\n

Current projects
\n<\/strong>Marnix currently leads the\u00a0Marnix Busstra Band<\/a> and the\u00a0Old School Band<\/a>\u00a0and co-leads the\u00a0Mike Mainieri\/Marnix Busstra Quartet<\/a>. Besides these bands he is working solo<\/a> with his 8-string bouzouki and is working as a duo<\/a> with vibraphone player Vincent Houdijk<\/a>. On a non-musical level, he is a committee member of a small foundation<\/a>\u00a0that supports orphan children in Mongolia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
