Reason for a new CD \u2018<em>Firm Fragile Fun<\/em>\u2018 and a compilation-double-album \u2018<em>Best of Both Worlds<\/em>\u2018 of this versatile guitar player. Busstra has played in many bands like Second Vision, Marnix Busstra 4-tet, Buzz Bros Band, Marnix Busstra Band and the band of his wife\u00a0Karin Bloemen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicframes.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/busstra301x200-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-34203\" title=\"Marnix Busstra\" src=\"http:\/\/www.musicframes.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/busstra301x200-1-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"238\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a>\u2018<em>Firm Fragile Fun<\/em>\u2018 is a title that makes sense. The music is energetic, dynamic and full of musical fun. Guitar themes, with a wonderful John Scofield \/ Philip Catherine sound, whirl through your speakers. Clear compositions written by Busstra, with a fresh structure and lots of space for his fellow musicians. Striking is drummer\u00a0<strong>Pieter Bast<\/strong>\u2018s polyrhythms and ghost-notes playing. A very\u00a0propulsive part of the music. Together with bassist\u00a0<strong>Arnold Dooyeweerd<\/strong>\u00a0(lovely\u00a0<em>laid-back<\/em>bluesy solo in the \u2018<em>Smoky<\/em>\u2018) they are an excellent tandem. Pianist\u00a0<strong>Rembrandt Frerichs<\/strong>\u00a0solos are beautifully melodic, with a cymbalon imitation in the opening piece \u2018<em>Stress\u2019\u00a0<\/em>and<em>\u00a0\u2018Crazy\u2019<\/em>, with here and there the piano style of Jarrett (\u2018<em>Joy<\/em>\u2018) and Monk (<em>\u2018Fun\u2019<\/em>).\u00a0<strong>Marnix Busstra<\/strong>\u00a0is an inspiring, clear and precise musician who plays besides guitar also\u00a0 bouzouki and electric sitar in the spherical \u2018<em>Deep<\/em>\u2018. On his new album \u2018<em>Fragile Firm Fun<\/em>\u2018 he tells a musical story. Every composition has a short title that implifies a mood or feeling, as in the titles\u00a0<em>\u2018Gone\u2019, \u2018Deep\u2019\u00a0<\/em>or<em>\u2018Mild<\/em>\u2018.
